Kumanu, Formerly JOOL Health, Named a Winner at the 2016 Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition

A pitch competition that supports Michigan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by offering entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their companies to investors while building connections with entrepreneurs, business acceleration resources, and experts in their sector during carefully curated individual meetings, named their 2016 winners.

Cobo Center, Detroit, Michigan, November 7, 2016 – Winners of the 7th Annual Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition were announced at a gala awards event on November 3rd at Cobo Center. Kumanu, formerly known as JOOL Health, took home the top award in the Life Science/Healthcare category while also placing 3rd overall. The company’s CEO and Founder, Vic Strecher, returned to the Ann Arbor office carrying a $50,000 check along with another $20,000 in legal, design, and consulting services.

Over the course of the day, 36 semi-finalist companies (culled from over 200 initial applicants) pitched their businesses to multiple judging panels comprised of 35 investor judges. With the field winnowed down to 10 finalists, another round of “elevator” style pitches determined the three top winners.

Everyone at Kumanu is proud we’re a Michigan-based company and deeply grateful for the recognition afforded us by Accelerate Michigan.
